Our approach to money

E-mail Print PDF

NVC and Money
Our consciousness in using NVC is that money is a strategy to meet needs. When we offer workshops, books, coaching, mediation etc,  we meet a variety of our own needs, including for contribution, meaning, connection, and growth. We want to also meet our need for support in our livelihood through our teaching of NVC because that way we can contribute most of our time and energy without seeking other work through which to sustain ourselves and our families. Hoping to meet these needs, we ask that each person contribute the most they can.

At the same time, we have a deep joy in and commitment to making NVC available to all people regardless of their financial means.

We are aware that money is often a charged topic in our culture and would like to invite you to "think outside the box". Therefore we would like to ask you;

  • Not to refrain from signing up for a course, or buy materials, just because you just do not have access to the amount of money we ask for.
  • To connect with us for a dialogue in which you tell how your financial situation is, what needs it would meet to join a course, etc.. From the dialogue we hope to reach a solution that can meet both your and our needs, for example by a payment schedule or other creative solutions.
  • That if you want to contribute more financial resources than we ask for a course (for it to meet your needs, for example, support), that you let us know that, because it can help someone else with less financial resources to take the course.

Frequently asked questions when it comes to the money

We really like the challenge, freedom and the learning we get not have fixed prices but to work on a sliding scale to manage money. Many have told us that it is not possible, but we have now used this a few years and found that it does and that it better serves our desire to live in line with our values and the ability to make contact with people we probably have missed otherwise .

Along with joy, it has also given us at least three challenges. In the first, We are aware that some people do not come to us and tell about their needs concerning the economy and instead choose not to participate in our program. It makes us sad because we are longing for trust in our commitment and that in all cases be given the chance to decide how and if we would like to contribute.

In the second, to use the "sliding scale" is quite rare and many people feel confused and uncertain of how to respond to it.

A third challenge is the logistics: making arrangements with individual people (rather than existing groups) takes a lot of time and energy from our side. Towards the end of this document are some answers to common questions. It would be very helpful to us if you would be willing to read them and then decide whether you wish to contact us. If your questions are not answered by these, we look forward to respond via e-mail or telephone.
We hope that your financial situation is not an obstacle to applying to our courses / training.

Question: How do I decide how much I contribute in the sliding scale?

Answer: We want you to find an amount that takes both your and our needs into account. We want to help you find it, not necessarily by going to what is most comfortable, but by trying to include as many needs as possible.

Because it may seem challenging for people to consider how much they want to contribute, and we want your choice to be in line with your values, so we invite you to take note of the following questions as a way to explore your needs :

  1. What amount would be most fun for you to give, but given your current financial situation? What needs would be met and which would not be there, if you gave this sum?
  2. What amount would be most convenient for you? What needs would be met and not if you gave this sum?
  3. Are you in touch with our needs in relation to our economic requests? What needs are you in contact with? What feelings are brought in when you are in contact with our needs and the needs are related to these feelings?
  4. With all these levels of awareness, which sum you choose to give? What needs do you hope to satisfy through this election?
